First of all, you all are a bunch of hilarious smart asses! ...and we love you for it. Also, many of you have asked for more details about the stupid tumor and upcoming surgery. Although we will know a lot more about the tumor after the biopsy, I'll try to convey what we do know as of now.
The first question most people ask is, "what the F*!k, a tumor!???". Yup it's a tumor, but there are lots of different kinds of brain tumors. This tumor is a glioma. Still, there are different kinds of gliomas. At the pre-op appointment, Dr. Penar explained that this fucker is most likely one of three kinds of gliomas. It's either an astrocytoma, an oligodenroglioma or a mixed glioma. For an explanation of these terms check out the National Brain Tumor Society. We won't know what kind of glioma it is until after the surgery. However the good news is, we will get the biopsy results before the surgery is even done. So, we won't be stuck wondering for much longer. The second big question is, where is this sucker. The tumor is located near the middle-top part of the head; in the area that controls Marc's motor, language, and some visual functions. Obviously the surgery is not risk free, but we are confident in the surgeons and trust that everything will go as planned.
The surgery is scheduled for Friday, May 3rd. Marc should be in the hospital for about five days after the surgery. I think it's safe to say visitors are welcome. Here's a link to the Fletcher Allen contact and visitor information page. Assuming all goes well, overall recovery time should be about six weeks. That means Marc will be back on his bike before mid summer!
So, I think that about sums up as much as we know right now. If you want to subscribe and follow this blog by email, there's a link below. That way you can stay posted throughout Marc's amazing recovery. Thank, all of you, so much for the love and support and please keep it comin' ~ especially on and after May 3rd.
Ummmmmm, I just have one final comment for y'all. Calmer than you are, dudes...... calmer than you are.
"in the area that controls Marc's motor" I think it's safe to say that Marc can function pretty well with impaired motor skills, so no worries there.
ReplyDelete"language" Four letter words are pretty easy to remember.
"some visual functions." Maybe he'll be able to see red and green after this sucker is gone.
I will always be able to see green.
